Pharaoh Ants
- Size
- 1.5 to 2 mm long (1/16th to an 1/12th of an inch)

- Queens can grow up to 3/16 of an inch long
- Multiple queens per colony
- Queens are often seen alongside worker ants on foraging trails
- Nests
- Enormous variety in nest sizes (from 100 ants to several hundred thousand ants)
- Will nest almost anywhere
- Prefer wam and humid locations near food sources
- Most preferred locations: Kitchens and Bathrooms
- Will nest outside in Southern States usually under something rather than in a mound (e.g. under roof shingles and piles of debris)
- Propagation
- Workers and male ants depart nests carrying a brood of eggs to establish new nests.
- Queens often accompany them but unlike many other ant species the Queen is not required for the new nest as the migrant ants can raise a new queen from the eggs).
- Foraging
- Very visible trails when large nests are nearby
- Forage just as aggressively for water as they do for food
- Regularly spotted drinking water from a variety of unexpected sources (even aquariums)
- Most foraging is done in the evening hours
- How to Kill
- DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CONTROL WITH SPRAY UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES
- Avoid disturbing the nest
- Spraying or disturbing a nest causes an almost immediate response from the nest where ants will leave and establish MULTIPLE new colonies
- Use Maxforce Granular Bait
- Track down and bait every trail you can find
