Nests
  • Nest in deep, dry, well-drained soil in mounds that look something like a crater you’d see on the moon
  • Common nesting locations are at the side of roads, open fields and in shady areas near trees
  • A colony can cover an area as small as a few square feet, but also, as it grows, an area up to an entire acre
Foraging
  • Foraging occurs primarily in the Fall (Autumn) during temperatures in the 45-80 degree range
  • Many foraging trails are underground spreading out from the center of the nest
  • Short and long above-ground trails are easily found between the nests and the trees/shrubs being "harvested"
Fungus
  • Leaf Cutter Ants collect leaves and return them to the nest so that they can grow fungus on them - Once established, it's not uncommon for them to strip an entire tree overnight
How to Kill
  • We recommend calling-in a professional pest control service
