Ant Baiting Tips
- Find the trails
- The best place for the bait is where amongst the trails the ants use while they're foraging for food.
- Ideally as close to the beginning of the trail as is possible.
- Don't walk right up to the nest to do it, the noise and vibration from your feet could cause some of the colony to leave and start a new colony.
- Bait every trail
- When you have multiple ant trails, it's hard to be certain if they're all coming from the same colony.
- The best approach is to bait every trail you find.
- This will ensure every nest is targeted.
- Don't forget
- Once you place the bait, go back and check on it daily.
- If it's all gone you need to place some more.
- If the ants are all dead and have stopped eating the bait, you can stop putting out more.
- If none of the bait has ever been eaten, you need to switch to a different bait for your type of ant.
- Take your time
- Your using a great product, and you're using a great strategy, but if you don't take enough time to look for all of the ant signs, you will give them a chance to survive.
- Check outside too
- If you're tackling ants inside your home, don't forget to check for their trails outside too.
- Some types of ant live outside but travel inside to find food.
- If you don't track down enough of their trails to make sure you wipe out all of the colonies, it's just a matter of time before they'll be back inside.
- Never bait the top of a mound
- You can carefully bait AROUND a mound.
- If you sprinkle bait ON TOP of the nest it will be avoided and not eaten - and with some types of ant, small sections of the colony will depart and establish new colonies.
- Always walk up to the mound slowly and quietly.
