Allegheny Mound Ants
- Size
- 3.5 to 7mm long (1/8th to 1/4 of an inch)
- Color
- Reddish Brown with darker rear end (resembling red imported fire ants)
- Locations
- Northeastern States spreading as far south as Georgia
- Eating Preferences
- Stinger
- Queen
- Multiple queens per colony
- Nests
- Mounds in soil and lawns
- Mounds have been found in Ohio measuring over 10 feet in diameter
- Benefits
- As the mound and mound-population grow, they eat large quantities of unpleasant-to-human insects
- How to Kill
- Use Maxforce Granular Bait
- Track down and bait every trail you can find
- Sprinkle bait around nesting sites - but not directly onto the nest
- A broadcast bait treatment can also help if you have large lawn/field containing many mounds, but only broadcast in conjunction with baiting around every nest (you cannot use broadcast baiting instead of taking the time to address each mound)
